Viking Sports Reunion

In honor of this year's Downey High School Hall of Fame celebration, I hosted a "Viking Sports Reunion" on May 24th, 2007 beginning at 5:30 p.m. at the Downey Embassy Suites. This was a wonderful opportunity to party with new and old friends alike. It is my hope that all of those able to attend had as great a time as I did.

The Downey High School Hall of Fame ceremony was held on Friday, May 25th, 2007, beginning at 10:00 a.m. in the school library. Randy Meadows was selected as one of this years inductees Other inductees were: Lorain Brault, 1961; Greg Fuller, 1971 CEO, All American Home Center; George Pajan, 1987 drummer for "Black Eyed Peas"; Dr. Chris Pristos, 1971; Rick Trejo, 1979 current mayor of Downey.

Downey was incorporated in 1956. That same year, a group of athletes at Downey High School were dedicating themselves to a football program developed by coach Dick Hill. Randy was part of that team that tied Anaheim High School in the L.A. Coliseum to become CIF Co-champions of Southern California. Allen Layne, former teacher, coach and principal at Downey High, began the Hall of Fame in 1999. Since it was started, there have been 51 Downey High graduates inducted.
